Hurricane Moms

Filed under: Uncategorized — by storkvision @ 2:40 pm

It’s been almost two weeks since Hurricane Ike went through south Texas and rearranged just about every little bit of the Galveston coastal area.  Our hearts ache for those pregnant Moms down there with no amenities to see them through – it’s bad enough to have to give up wine and our other guilty pleasures without having to endure pregnancy with no fresh water or air conditioning!  Brutal!

We would like to reach out to anyone who was scheduled to get a sonogram in the Houston area and had to flee the storm instead.  If you’re in the Dallas area, come on in to our Keller location and get 50% off our package prices – just our small way of trying to inject a little joy into a sad situation.

Two weeks ago we had a lady by the name of Kristin call to schedule an appointment for last Thursday to come in and experience our 4D ultrasound package.  When Thursday (her appointment day) rolled around, we received a very concerned and apologetic call from Kristin asking if she could reschedule her appointment for another day.  She went into depth about how she and her husband both work in the Dallas area and own a home here that they utilize during the work week.  Normally at weeks’ end they return to their real home in the Houston area where they have family and friends.  She needed to reschedule her 4D appointment with us so they could go back to Houston to secure their home and tie down their outside furniture, etc.  Her hope was that they could quickly drive to Houston, take care of the house and jump back in the car to return to Dallas to ride out the storm.

We talked and even joked about how she was headed in the wrong direction since evacuees were already en route to Dallas.  We wished her well and told her we looked forward to seeing her the following week.  We wondered about her over the weekend as the news showed coverage of the devastated Galveston and blacked-out Houston areas.  We finally spoke with her two days ago.  It was great to know that she and her husband got back to Dallas safe and sound and brought family members with them.  She said that while their Houston home wasn’t expected to have power for another 2 -3 weeks and there were trees down and limbs strewn across her yard, she felt very blessed that her house was all in one piece.  As thankful as she was for that, she was also happy that — thanks to Ike and their work week Dallas home – her whole family could see their baby in 4D this week.  A silver lining if we ever saw one….

In closing…everyone knows there’s nothing we Texas gals like better than shopping.  Heck, we’re world renowned for it!  And being pregnant just gives us an excuse to buy different stuff.  We’ve collected some of our favorites for our store, and we just came across something that we HAVE to share because we love, love, love it!  It’s a bottle cap necklace for Moms-to-be with “Boy” or “Girl” on one side and a cute saying on the other.  So you can just wear this to let folks know what’s coming.  And they’re only 10 bucks….makes you wish for twins!

We’d love to hear your comments about our blog here and also about what your other favorite pregnancy or Mom blogs are out there in cyberspace.  Drop us a line anytime!

Cheers,

Renee & Malissa

Hello world!

Welcome to the Stork Vision blog!

We’re Renee and Malissa, neighbors, friends, and founders of Stork Vision (www.storkvision.com), the earliest way to meet your baby!  Stork Vision provides Moms-to-be with ultrasound imaging in 2D, 3D and 4D live! motion….all while you relax in a home theater atmosphere, attended to by our professional registered sonographers.  It’s a wonderful way get a peek at your baby…with images that you can then share with family and friends.

The kids are back in school – Renee’s four and Malissa’s two – and even though it’s fall, back-to-school always seems like a time of renewal for us Moms!  So what better time to start our blog (after all, what are we to do with all the free time we now have…LOL)?  We wanted to start this little online dialogue – the first for both of us – as a special way to bond with our customers, friends and families.  If anything, Stork Vision is about bonding….celebrating the strongest bond we know, the one between mother and child.

This is also a vehicle for sending some joy out into the world.  We don’t know about you, but between the politics and the hurricanes, we’d like to have a place that offers some hope and happiness, allows us to share with you some stories that do just that and gives us a chance to rave or rant (anyone else out there think the term “working mother” is redundant?!?).

And last but not least, we figured if we had our own blog, our kids might think we’re cool.  (Actually, we’re not really counting on that.)

Stork Vision grew out of our friendship, and is growing bigger than we ever thought it would.  We now have 15 locations in seven states….we didn’t really plan it that way, but soon after we started, we had customers and employees who just loved the idea of this business and wanted to be a part of it.  So you could say we kind of gave birth to what is now a growing franchise business (www.storkvisionfranchising.com), and what we like most about that is being a part of so many Moms’ lives.

For us, there was nothing more special than our pregnancies, and then seeing how these little people develop.  We have so many stories to share….the first that comes to mind is both sad and happy.  Not too long ago, we had a client come in with her mother and mother-in-law.  Usually the husbands come, too, but sometimes they don’t, so we didn’t really think much about it….until we heard her story.  It seems that she and her husband had been trying for seven years to get pregnant.  After prayers and procedures and many disappointments, their perseverance was finally rewarded…a baby was on the way!  Such joy!  Tragically, their joy was followed all too swiftly by heartbreak:  not too long after finding out they were pregnant, the husband had a heart attack and passed away.  There were many tears shed that day that she came in to see us….but the tears soon turned to smiles when our sonographer worked her magic and we could all see a healthy baby boy on the screen, growing strong in his mother’s womb until the day he would be born to carry on his missing father’s legacy of love.

We feel very blessed to be a part of stories like these, and to be able to bring so much joy to expectant mothers and families.  We’ll be sharing more of these stories in the weeks to come, as well as showing you some of our favorite baby stuff and just generally celebrating the best job ever:  Mom!

Cheers,

Renee and Malissa
